Maytag Washer Troubleshooting Will Not Start

Here are three common reasons why your washer isn’t turning ON, along with the solution:
Power Issue
Sometimes, a simple issue is untraceable. The power issue is the most common one on the list. You have to check the power cable. Here, there are three things.
The Power Plug Is loose
Check the power plug. Mount is properly in the outlet and test the appliance.
Power Outlet Is NOT working
Plug in another appliance in the outlet and check whether it is working or NOT. If it’s working, there may be an issue with your washer power cable. If not, your power outlet is faulty and needs to be replaced.
The Power Cable has Tore Up
Sometimes, the cable gets stuck beneath the washer leg, and when you put the load on the washer, it tears apart. In this case, you have to repair the cable.
Just take the tape and find the damaged area. Attach the wires and tape the area properly. Plug in the washer and test it.
Note: Don’t use Extension cords for the washers as they aren’t reliable enough to transmit the electric current.
Control Panel Is Stuck
The control panel is an integral part of the washer, which controls all the washer functions. There are many reasons behind the stuck panel. We’ll discuss it one by one.
Control Lock Is Activated
If the control lock is activated on your washer, it will disallow any activity on the control panel. Thus, the panel will get locked.
To turn OFF the control lock, search for the control lock button on the washer and press it for about 5 seconds. The lock will be deactivated.
Controls are NOT Working
Check if all of the controls aren’t working OR if some of the controls are working. If some of the controls are working, try restarting the washer.
Just unplug the washer and plug it back after 5 seconds. Now, check if all of the controls are working. If not, you should seek professional help to repair/replace the control panel.
Lid Switch Malfunctioning
A lid switch is a kind of security mechanism set in the washers which stops the machine from starting if the lid is open, and it also prevents the machine from running if the lid accidentally gets opened.
Check if the machine lid is properly closed or NOT. If it’s up to mark, your machine’s lid switch is faulty and needs replacement. So, to replace the washer’s lid switch, follow these steps:
- Unplug the washer and turn OFF the water supply valves.
- The lid switch is placed on the back side of the washer. Turn the washer backward.
- Unscrew and remove the rear panel.
- You’ll see the lid switch. Unmount the screws and take them out.
- Replace it with the new one, put the cover back, and screw it.
