Take off the cap at the end of the holder which holds your top dish rack in place. If you have a slide-in model, make sure to remove any plastic covers from the rails before sliding it into its track.

Step 2: Remove the Rust

Use a wire brush attachment to a rotary tool, preferably powered by an electric drill, to remove areas of rust from the table.

Step 3: Use a Pair of Diagonal Snips

Disinfect and cut the rust away from the tines of a dish rack, using a pair of diagonal snips and a wire cutter. Attach sandpaper to the rotary tool’s sander tip attachment and trim away any lingering rust to dislodge it further.

Step 4: Coat the Replacement Tine

Add a protective coating to all of the exposed tines on the dishwasher, including any that might already be present.

Create new tine tips out of something sturdy and replace the old ones if necessary. Line them up with the coating for maximum protection and let dry before putting it back together again.

Step 5: Reinstall the Dish Racks

Remove all of the dishes from the dishwasher. You’ll need to reinstall them in order to have anywhere for them dry out after allowing liquid plastic to leak all over them.

Following this, one must wait for about 24 hours so that the paint has time to dry so as to not ruin the dishes, which might happen if any moisture is left on their surfaces.
